Setting Up Your Hero

These follow the game's rules (see the Player Guide for the full detail). Your race adjusts your scores; the race card shows exactly how.

Class Raise first Plays as
Fighter Strength, then Constitution Your wall. Takes any weapon and armour, holds the front line.
Cleric Wisdom, then Constitution Healer and second front-liner with blunt weapons and any armour. Learns prayers automatically.
Magic-User Intelligence, then Dexterity Glass cannon with arcane spells such as Magic Missile, Sleep and Shield. Wears no armour; dagger or staff.
Thief Dexterity, then Strength Precision striker in light armour.

Optimisation tips

  • Use all three rerolls if your class's prime requisite is low. You cannot reroll once the sheet is confirmed.
  • Sex choice matters: Male gives +2 Strength; Female gives +2 Constitution and -1 Strength.
  • Spend the 5 bonus points on your prime requisite and Constitution. You can lower a score you do not need (down to -1) to gain a point elsewhere.
  • Build a party of four. A Fighter, a Cleric, a Magic-User and a Thief between you and your companions covers every job.
  • Mana scales with your casting score. A Magic-User with high Intelligence, or a Cleric with high Wisdom, casts far more between rests.
  • Rest at inns before a dungeon (10 to 20 gold). A resurrection costs 500 gold per level.

Sharing Your Own Guide

Post a new topic in the forum below. Good guide titles say who they are for, such as "Solo Thief start: surviving to level 3". Screenshots help. Keep heavy story spoilers to Spoilers/Walkthru.
