Patch Notes

Build 2026.10.11

New

  • Credits are now a command on the title screen and in the main menu, listing every artist, plugin author and licence.
  • Remove Ads (Android). The free Android version shows a small banner at the bottom of the screen. Remove Ads in the main menu buys the ad-free version through Google Play. The banner goes at once and stays gone on that device, and a reinstall restores the purchase.
  • Official guides published on this site: the Player Guide, Backstories and the spoiler-filled Walkthrough.

Improved

  • Real passages everywhere. The glowing crystals that marked dungeon and ship entrances are gone. Every way in and out now looks like what it is: stairs, doors, archways, ladders, ropes, trapdoors, a burrow or a tapestry.
  • The Pirate King's flagship has painted decks, a rope ladder and jolly boat, a companionway and a hull ladder.
  • The Nameless Dungeon (all three levels) is redecorated room by room: pillared halls, shrines, storerooms, lairs and traps all look the part.
  • Olde Island Fortress floors are cleaner: one main stone per room, with worn patches instead of a scatter of mismatched tiles.
  • Smaller download. Unused files were trimmed from the game: about 231 MB down to about 113 MB.
  • See what you are walking into. Dungeon rooms with a fight now show the monster waiting there (the boss, in a boss room), and it is gone once beaten.
  • Quest givers look the part: Dusty Rennick the old prospector, one-eyed Bart, the merchant Kardon Karien, Captain Argos, Warden Sylthir and Harbor Captain Wrenlow each have their own look and portrait.
  • In-game Help on the title screen is rewritten for this game, with the support address.

Fixed

  • Rescue Gwelayn: the battle at the altar could be fought again after she was rescued. It is now a one-time fight.
  • One-time rewards: the Chieftain's Tomb, the Weapons Cache and the finds in the Iron Helm Inn can no longer be collected twice.
  • The Pirate King: the flagship's escape hatch now opens only once the Pirate King has been defeated.
  • Kardon Karien and Bart no longer turn into a candle after you accept their quests.
  • Captain Argos no longer appears twice in the officers' quarters.
  • Gold in the Hills: the black squares in the mine are now proper pits with rocky rims.
  • The Nameless Dungeon's Library is furnished as a library again, with the bookcases, the yellow mould and the Elvish Spectacles from the module.

Build 2026.10.08

New

  • The world map is rebuilt: hills and mountain tiers, rivers with stone bridges at the fords, waterfalls, and roads between the cities.
  • A hand-painted parchment minimap (press Tab or choose Map).
  • All seven cities are rebuilt with their own look: Slateholm on the fens, storm-dark Ravenstone, the elven capital Avenrho, the imperial port of Novatia, Beth's cathedral precinct and the bronze-working town of Corvis.
  • Thirty city interiors (taverns, inns, chapels, general goods and herbalists) now have their own floor plans and furnishings.
  • Pirate Island is now a jungle island with a shrine, a waterfall pond, a pirate camp and a lookout.

Improved

  • Detail pass for the Cave of the Unknown, Olde Island Fortress and the Pirate Island sea caves: proper walls, cave floors, water pools and props that match each room.

Fixed

  • Ravenstone: you could be stranded when leaving the city for the world map. A docked boat now takes you out.

Build 2026.10.06

New

  • Quest Log and tracker. Every quest is broken into its real steps as journal entries, ticked as you go. The current objective is pinned to the top-right of the map.
  • City Travel Portals. A column of blue light at the heart of each city takes you to any city you have already visited.
  • Treasure rooms are marked with a chest and a compass icon, and their loot is taken once.
  • Achievements are synced with Google Play Games on Android.

Fixed

  • Neutralize Poison and Cure Disease (spells and potions) had a 0% chance to cure. They now always work.
  • Saves on Android now survive closing and reopening the app.
  • Gold in the Hills: the boss, Xikek's war band, could be unreachable or fought twice. Both are fixed.
  • Fourteen doorways and stairs set you down on top of an NPC or a wall. Every landing in the game was checked and corrected.

Build 2026.09.29

New

  • The free cities of the Western Lands: Slateholm, Ravenstone, Avenrho, Novatia, Beth and Corvis, each with an inn, a church, a market, an apothecary and a tavern full of rumours.
  • Proof of Worthiness: earn the trust of Avenrho's wardens to pass its gate.
  • The Pirate King: a two-level island and the Pirate King's two-deck flagship, given by Harbor Captain Wrenlow near Slateholm.
  • An intro film before the title screen (press OK or tap to skip).
  • Stables with horses and livestock in Morgansfort.

Build 2026.09.28

New

  • Dungeons from the module: the Cave of the Unknown (Rescue Gwelayn), the Olde Island Fortress, and all three levels of the Nameless Dungeon, plus its hidden Library.
  • Church and Magic Shop services: healing, resurrection and spell training.
  • Combat effects: spells, criticals and heavy hits are now animated, and a free effects pack has been added.
  • Ochre Jellies split when struck by weapons, as the Basic Fantasy rules say. Only fire and cold hurt the parent.
  • The Black Chancery font is now used for all game text.

Fixed

  • "My attacks never land": physical attacks had a 0% chance to hit, game-wide. Every class and monster now hits normally.
  • Level-up HP and MP, the real Basic Fantasy XP tables, and corrected monster statistics.

Build 2026.09.26

New

  • Companions: recruit up to three of eight adventurers found around Morgansfort, and swap your party at any inn.
  • Mana and recovery: Magic-Users draw mana from Intelligence and Clerics from Wisdom. HP and MP recover slowly while you explore, never in battle.
  • Potions in Small, Medium and Large sizes.
  • Magic Tomes: Magic-Users learn new spells from tomes or trainers.
  • Jewellery: a Neck slot and two Ring slots.
  • Side-view battles, with your party on the right.

Fixed

  • Monsters never attacked: no enemy had a damaging action. Every monster now fights back.
  • Talking to some companions could lock the game.

Build 2026.09.23

New

  • Card-based character creation: a roll card, race and class cards with boons and banes, and a parchment character sheet.
  • A class compass in the upper-left corner, with points of interest.
  • Regional random encounters on the world map: wolves, boars, orcs, giant bees and spiders, rats, and mountain and water monsters.
  • Treasure: monsters drop treasure rolled by the Basic Fantasy treasure tables.

Fixed

  • Clerics and Magic-Users levelled at the wrong speeds. They now follow the rulebook.
  • Weapon types were mixed up, so some classes could use weapons the rules forbid.
